Plastiglomerate looks like this. Here's a sample:
From Algalita Marine Research Institute in California, as highlighted on Hawaii's KITV News: http://www.kitv.com/news/scientists-find-plastic-rock-on-big-island-beach/26405812 |
It pollutes our oceans and beaches, kills coral reef, and as it spreads it creates a new synthetic habitat.
Hawaii's news coverage indicates that "partial lid containers contributed to 22 percent of the fragments."
Will plastiglomerate be the lasting legacy of human life?
So far today, managed to avoid plastics, but unwittingly created garbage when I used aluminum foil to take leftovers from breakfast with one of my favorite people. Tin foil is technically recyclable but not in my municipality. Hello, landfill.
Note to self: bring a reusable container for leftovers when eating in restaurants.
